My Woke Up Winning Warrior Journey
My Woke Up Winning Warrior Journey"
In 2014, locked in the darkest closet, both literally and figuratively, I believed my story had ended. Pain, isolation, and despair overwhelmed me to the point of surrender. I had written goodbye letters, prepared everything needed, and yet—when I awoke on the floor, confused but alive—I heard clearly in my soul, “not yet woke up winning warrior, not yet.”
That awakening marked the rebirth of my spirit, my journey from despair to self-love, resilience, and empowerment. Through therapy, spiritual work, and authentic vulnerability, I embraced the truth: I was worth fighting for, not just for myself but for my son and our future. Each day since, I’ve risen with gratitude, declaring proudly, "You did it, I did it, we did it—We woke up winning!"
If you're in that dark closet right now, this is your sign: Keep fighting. Your warrior spirit is within you, waiting for you to wake up and claim victory. Here are helpful resources for Black LGBTQ mental health: The National Queer & Trans Therapists of Color Network and The Audre Lorde Project.
